Why become a Mason?
In 2004/2005 a survey from eight different Lodge's was conducted and here are the results.
YOUNGER MASONS
The younger Masons in eight Lodges were asked in a survey, “What keeps you active in your Lodge?”
Responses to that question related 50% to Brotherhood, 11% to Community, and 3 to 6% to other features of Masonic experience.
BROTHERHOOD, SAMPLE RESPONSES
• On leaving Lodge, I am frequently really glad I came.
• The Brethren are good men, friendly and affable, and with whom I enjoy spending time.
• “When I think of the people that I would call a friend, over half of them are my brothers in Lodge.”
• Masons are loyal to their fellow men and fellow Masons. They can be called on to serve with their Brothers in times of need and fellowship.
• I forged strong relationships with groups and individuals I would never have met in my regular daily life.
• A Mason is trustworthy, generous, and ready and willing to help others, as he is able.
• My Brothers care about me, and I care about them.
• I like the Masons I work with in Lodge.
• I think of a Mason as being a good man on whom I can depend.
• I stayed with Masonry because I found friendship and support groups.
• Masons active in Lodge tend to be honest, hard workers who care about each other.
COMMUNITY, SAMPLE RESPONSES
• We do good works when we can.
• The meaningful ways we get involved with the community are a dramatic change.
• Masonry is here to serve a purpose. My only concern in talking about it is to see that purpose served. My Lodge has really become involved with the community, often asking for the help of other Lodges.
• I talk about the help we give to the community and how proud I am of my Brother Masons.
• We sponsor outreach, give scholarships to the high school, help with the annual city clean up, feed the homeless, assist the annual city festival by running the car show, participate in the Veterans’ Day Parade, and collect toys for local children.
